LED Light Skin Therapy

Home/Medical Aesthetic Dermatology/LED Light Skin Therapy

Research has suggested that certain wavelengths of light can have beneficial effects on the skin. This benefit has been further adapted with the use of light emitting diodes (LEDs), which are not lasers but are instead very powerful lights of a single colour. These wavelengths can be used to reduce inflammation including rosacea and acne and may possibly cause slight improvement in the appearance of fine lines. Our consultant dermatologist Dr Anne Farrell was one of the first dermatologists in the UK to use LED lights and their benefits are now becoming increasingly recognised and promoted globally.

What Can LED Light Therapy Do for Your Skin?

This versatile therapy uses either blue, red, infrared or a combination of these three lights to address specific skin concerns. For example, blue and red light can reduce the Cutibacterium acnes bacteria that play a role in causing acne, while red and infrared light can reduce inflammation, assist wound healing and may improve skin texture and soften fine lines. Red LED light has also been reported to help stimulate hair growth. Our team will suggest a specific combination of wavelengths best suited for your individual skin.

What Does LED Light Skin Therapy Involve?

The treatment, which patients describe as pain-free, involves lying under a light for approximately 20 minutes. Goggles are worn over the eyes during the treatment, as the light is quite bright. The skin should look completely normal after the treatment, and regular daily activities can be resumed immediately. This treatment is gentle with no recovery time.

Can LED Light Skin Therapy be Combined with Other Treatments?

Yes, LED Light can be safely and usefully combined with almost all the other treatments we offer at Dermatology Consulting. Furthermore, not only does it have benefits on the skin as mentioned above, but it also speeds up recovery time after procedures.

How Much Does LED Light Skin Therapy Cost?

A session of LED Light Therapy Costs £65 and if a course of 6 are done the last one is free of charge. If it is added after a procedure it is £45.
