Skin Rashes

rashThere are many different skin conditions that can cause a variety of rashes on different parts of the body. Some of these are very common (for example, eczema and psoriasis). Others are very rare.

Often your General Practitioner will be able to make a diagnosis but if the problem is difficult to diagnose or treat, he/she will ask a Consultant Dermatologist’s advice.

Sometimes a diagnosis can be made by the Consultant Dermatologist looking at the skin but sometimes the diagnosis may need special tests, such as blood tests or a skin biopsy (where a small amount of skin is removed under local anaesthetic to analyse under the microscope), or allergy tests.

Once a diagnosis is made the most appropriate treatment can be prescribed.
